CLASS H FELONY.
The bill, House Bill 341, makes it a crime to knowingly and without consent impersonate another person through or on a website or by other electronic means for purposes of harming, intimidating, threatening, or defrauding another person, including the misrepresented person. The bill also provides a civil remedy, in which either a misrepresented person or another person who is defrauded or otherwise harmed by an online imposter could recover actual damages of up to $10,000, punitive damages, and attorneys' fees.
